I went over last night after the debate and signed up as a "Friend of Fred". It's a cool little site. There are a few things on there that are specific to bloggers. He's already running a smart campaign before he even announces.

I called Senator McCain's office this morning to convey my regrets at not being able to vote for him given the immigration thing 'n all. I hope he understood... I mean I really hope he understood!

Go Fred!

I am disappointed that there is nothing on his site (yet) that tells us where he stands on the issues. I know very little about the man and want to know more. I have the impression that he is the one for me in 2008, but I'll need a lot more info.

Here you go 'ugly naked guy'. This might help a little. I'm sure more will come out as h announces.Fred's stance.

Thanks, that was a real helpful link. The good news is it seems obvious that this is the guy I should support, the bad news is he probably doesn't stand a chance as the media starts pounding on how conservative he is. I would bet money that Guiliani will be the nominee.

Come on, folks, doesn't Thompson look like the kind of guy who has a double-wide with shag carpet, an 8-track player, ceiling mirrors over his waterbed, a fridge stocked with Billy Beer, a poster of the Bud Girls, a framed stock certificate of Hamburger Helper, possum on the outdoor grill and couple of blonde honeys who say, "Freddie, ya'll promised to take us to Friday night midget wrasslin'." Haven't we had enough big gross Southern schlubs for a while: Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush. Please, I like Waylon and Willie myself, but not in the freaking White House, okay? Get your cans behind MITT ROMNEY. So he's a Mormon, get over it. You liked the Donny & Marie Show, so what's the big deal?

Gosh, Bag of Bones, good thing you're not into stereotyping or anything baseless li1e that with political candidates.

Bag-

Romney can't make up his mind what he's for or against. He doesn't seem to be a bad guy, but I want a decision maker. Thompson is an effective statesman with class and realism. Maybe you could check your preconceptions at the door and at least see where he stands on the issues. That's right. He STANDS by them. He doesn't flit against them with the wind.

I share Wolf's concern about Romney...he's very polished and seems like a nice guy, but some of his positions (i.e., pro-life) were adopted *so* recently...he was either doing the politically expedient thing to be elected in MA, or the politically expedient thing to be elected President.

One of the things that appeals to me about Thompson is that he seems to have a consistent set of core beliefs which he's maintained over a long period of time. Yes, there are some question marks (his original support for McCain-Feingold being the biggest), but I have yet to see a "perfect" Republican candidate. At this point it's the search for the candidate who most consistently represents my views and also has a reasonable shot at beating Hillary/Obama.

Thanks for the link to the website, Wolf!

Loved hearing about your call to McCain's office, Dana.

Best wishes,
Laura
